Finishing the LWPI Course...
Sometime around the end of November/early December, I had finally recieved my certificate for Wedding & Event Planning.
When I first got it in the mail, I couldn't help but stare at it and just think about myself.
For a long time I've always had issues with school. Feelings of anxiety, worthlessness fed into the huge amount of prostination I did throughout my public school life. A lot of the time I did not want to face a lot of the challenges that were ahead of me, the main one being, "What do I do from here?"
It was only by the grace of God that I was able to finish this, just like it was Him that helped me get out of high school, because the amount of tension that always built up on me was anything but explainable.
I still don't have the courage to really take on anything long-term like college-- in my opinion, it's really the last thing I need. Especially when the fields that I want to get in are more about connections than education, and even more that college has turned into another commodity that traps people into debt for years. It's too hard for me to think about long-term schooling, when all I can imagine is the decades of debt I would be in-- and still no real direction of what I'm meant to do in life.
But this... this is definitely a step forward for me. Even though I struggled, and I failed the other course that I really wanted to pass, this gives me a bit more courage in myself, even if I still don't know where I want to go, or want to do. I know there will be a day where I won't get caught up in the spirit of fear, and be able to fully reach my full potential-- and maybe even surpass it.

I'm here at the moment trying my best to focus on my final project (as always, p.s. managed to get another extension, thank god),
but I just wanted to say how happy I am that I FINALLY got the confirmation that I finished the Wedding Planning course. My certificate should arrive in 4-6 weeks ♥
I was so hyped having received that e-mail earlier this week!
Then to top it off, I got another confirmation, this time for an interview for a job in Times Square. It's only temporary, maybe for about 6 months, but the pay will be really good, and hopefully I'll be working 30-or-so hours to make it worthwhile. I already estimated the amount of money I would get if I land it (before taxes), which would be well more than enough to take a certain ~international~ trip afterwards * w* plsplsplsGodpls
I'm praying for it so hard! If I land the job I immediately start working next week. It might wreck my Halloween plans, but I'd rather have those plans wrecked and start getting paid than anything else!
And THEN I'm inches away from getting my passport. Selling my NYCC pass was the best decision I've ever done, and now I'm only 40 bucks away from having all the money together! I'm planning to sell baked goods at the Guyana trip's rally day at my church on Saturday, and after service on Sunday ♥
I've been in a ridiculously good mood because of everything going on. It feels like everything is falling into place for me. ♥ I just hope I get the job, everything else is in the bag!

3 more days...
I didn't make good use of this week at ALL. It's such a struggle to really focus and concentrate-- I think the hardest part for me is bouncing between three different design concepts... my mind is getting all scrambled and I can't seem to just pull out the elements that I want to...
Today (Thursday) I went to what I'd call 'Day 0' of NY Comic Con. I had to meet up with my teacher who hooked me and my friends up with discounted 4-day passes, so I decided to take that time to look around, play the demos I wanted to play before the craziness that would ensue over the course of the weekend.
I also decided to get my speaker's pass, to just make it easier for myself...
Which was a weekend pass???
NYCC/NYAF was always going back and forth on the passes for panelists and whatnot. I remember at some point in time they gave panelists only one-day passes.. now it's a whole 4-day weekend? @ w@ I don't even
So with that... I'm perfectly capable of attending NYCC all 4 days.. but because of school, I'm not going to do that. It's pretty depressing. That, and the fact that I literally have like 5 dollars to my name at the moment! I can barely feed myself.. I don't even think I have enough trainfare to go back and forth over the whole weekend. .___. so I'm not going to try.
I'll be at the convention all Saturday, hopefully getting all my panels in and whatnot... but Friday and Sunday and Monday will be "busting ass" days, getting together the last of my work and just submitting it, no matter how crappy.
I was never good with deadlines...

Meeting with Preston Bailey!

So~ I had finally gotten a follow-up appointment with Preston earlier in the month~♥♥♥ I was so excited! Finally the day has come that I would meet with Preston Bailey and be able to be inspired and just be able to die happy. My feelings = sdkabhsjs weuinhihjbs
So I dressed really nice~ wore my Yumetenbo dress with my white sunhat and my brown gladiator sandals. I wanted to wear this the first meeting but I was trying to be on my consecration back then, so I made sure to wear it this time.
I was so ready for this meeting, trying to think up questions and all that kind of stuff~ just to find out that he unexpectedly got called away out of the country and I only just got the reschedule e-mail when I got there xD
Must be cool to be randomly whisked away across the world.. and extremely exhausting as well. D:
So the staff were saying, "Don't worry, next week! We'll make sure he's there~ We'll strap him down if we have to!" Which made me laugh but I wasn't too bothered by the news. I had planned to go and look for materials in the nearby fabric district and stuff so it wasn't too much of an inconvenience.
Before I left, I took some pictures with some of his props~ apparently one of the worker's birthdays just happened so they had the show room set up a bit. Everything looked amazing, I was afraid to touch anything! All his work look so beautiful in person. Especially the tree above, which reminded me of a willow tree with the strands of pearl clusters and teardrop glass at the ends * w* Even the flowers at the base of it and at the top...
One of his deco swans~ I call it a deco swan xD It's embellished with silk flowers, pearls and other things. All the props were so beautiful, and the flowers~! I really need to look around that area more, because they get some faaaabulous silk flowers that I can't believe are not real. Just look at all this stuff.
When I left the office, I went across the street really quick to this one place that was selling what I think was mannequins and stuff * w* At first I thought they were a trimmings store but apparently they weren't. What caught my eye about this place were these ridiculous Rococo mannequins. I simply died.
Look at them... one pink, one blue, and one ivory-ish. And the detail was ridiculous. I wanted to snatch the costumes and run LOL. I was allowed to snap photos of them~ definitely using these as reference the next time I decide to get another comission done!
I went up to meet with my bby Nancy during her lunch break for some awesome patbingsoo~ which we topped with macarons like the bosses we are. I told myself that whenever I'm in the area I'd share some with someone, to get as much bingsoo as I possibly could before the season ended!
I keep forgetting the name of the place, but it's one of the cafes in along 32nd street that sells macarons and bingsoo. This particular one is the "fruits" bowl, with watermelon, kiwi, mango, and loads more, with strawberry syrup and strawberry ice cream on top ; w; and of course, macarons lol
Me and Nancy, like bawssessss
When I parted from her, I went to the fabric district for a good 2-3 hours looking for shorthair faux fur.. to no luck. The only place I saw with what I wanted wanted $22 per yd! I was like what the heck? But apparently that's normal for faux fur.. which is ridiculous :x I should just see if there's any cheaper stuff on Taobao lol....
~~~~~~~~~
Fast forward the next week, where the saying "Third time's the charm~" was really the case. xD I finally-finally-finally got to meet Preston.
I was running late... and I wish I didn't! Ugh I suck big time. But they still made time for me! I think even if I had an hour I wouldn't have enough time in the world. Immediately when I sat down at his desk he started asking me about myself, and I was trying so hard not to be star-struck that I kind of forgot the questions I wanted to ask of him. We were talking the whole time though! We got into the reason why I was looking into that field... the course... my insecurities... and he sharing his own experience and was telling me to 'just do it!' To do an event and sort of wing it and get the feel of it and not hold myself back. Apparently this is a popular quote towards me this year... xD
It was very motivating. We talked about the options I did have as far as pushing further and feeling the industry out more, and he told me that I was "just a baby" and that I had plenty of time, after I told him my age, haha. So I'm going to try! Well~ not try. Do. I guess my first event will probably be my friend Christine's wedding that's set for next year @ w@
He had a meeting right after me so we had to cut our conversation short, but he made me a bouquet ; w; and it's sooooo pretty. I was so surprised and I thought it was the nicest thing ever. I'm not sure if he does that with all this student visitors or if it was because of me always missing him but I treasured the mess out of that bouquet.
We took pictures in front of his Welcome board right outside his office, where they tagged my name ; w; ksdbnasj sdhbashejbshjd
Kinda wish I wore the dress and stuff that day buuuut I didn't want to feel weird, wearing the same outfit and having his staff seeing the same thing twice xD #girlproblems, etc.
It was such a nice experience... I couldn't contain the feels. I called up my pastor and left a voicemail with a bunch of excited garble about meeting him and getting the flowers. I was just going on and on and he had a good laugh when he got to it = w=
After work I met up with Nancy -again- for some bingsoo, which this time was more like celebratory bingsoo. It was funny because I carried my flowers around the whole day, and it just looked like every table I sat at was some special spot xD
After we all finished hanging out and it was time to leave, I decided to meet with Pastor who just left out of work. That week there was a revival at the 'mother church' and my pastor was preaching, so I just rode with him and I told him about my day and he talked to me about motivation and stop being fearful and doubtful and other encouraging things.
I tried to make the flowers last as long as possible... they lasted for so long ; w; Like almost a week, even. A majority of the flowers I actually clipped and pressed them to put in my scrapbook later. At some point I 'dissected' the bouquet, taking note of every ribbon that was used, every pin and floral tape that helped put everything in place... I was just impressed. I never saw an actual professional bouquet in person and I took pictures of everything to learn off of it. Everything seemed so simple but it was amazing to me...
I have a lot to do and so little time. I think back to when I crammed and submitted almost all my work back in May for the planning course (a good 20-30 assignments, if I remember correctly) and that was physically painful for me to do. This course doesn't have nearly as much assignments, but they still require a lot of thinking and calculating about things I'm still not all that familiar with yet... but I can do is do my best and make the money spent worthwhile. I really want the internship! Hands-on stuff is so much better for me to learn than paper assignments... pray and wish for the best for me! Seriously gonna need it. = A=
R.I.P. my lazy life
Work has been kicking my ass for the past week...
6 days in a row, from open to close.
My back hurts so much that whenever I breathe I feel it.. it's ridiculous.
It's almost been a month since I started working here, and I just never thought it'd be as hard as it is! Then again I went from lying around straight to working 35+ hours every week. It was bound to become really stressful.
I figured 'if Mei was able to do it, why not?' and surprisingly I've been doing pretty well, actually GETTING UP AND OUT THE HOUSE BY 9AM. I swear if it's anything that motivates me to leave on time it's a) money, and b) food. I'm terrible.
Guess I gotta get used to these aches and pains.. I'm trying to get back to doing yoga as well, so hopefully after a while I'll just build my endurance. I'm also a member on Lifebooker, and there are so many deals right now that I want that it's ridiculous~ including $20 gel mani and an hour's worth of deep tissue massage. SOUNDS SO GOOD RIGHT NOW. They also have a set of 5 salsa classes for $35, and a "Video Vixen workout" for $10. Even though I'm exhausted I want to try and bust my ass in these next few weeks, for both the Women's Council convention + New York Comic Con. I want to also control my weight throughout the winter, even though I tend to always gain pounds within the last half of the year.. I'll definitely see how long it will last LOL
In the meantime, I've also been trying to clear my face up. I'm sure someone's reading this and going "but you have flawless skin!" Well my face broke out when my last period came and I got some spots on my cheek that I'm gonna try to get rid of.
Sometime this month or next month I'm planning to meet with this one photographer guy who apparently does free photography and stuff. I contacted him back in July or so about portrait photos for my hopefully successful event planning/design career. I have so many jeans, and business wear on hold at my job that I still need to try on lolo. But I'm so busy at work that I never have time to properly try stuff out :c maybe on Thursday I'll make my own lunch and use most of that lunch time trying on stuff like I want to.
I really wanna put something nice together and look professional. Of course it'll look sweet, and have pink somewhere LOL, and overall I want a youthful, serene, sweet-girly but professional look. Since I get paid by the week that shouldn't be too hard to do, to get the outfit anyways. I really just need the skirt-up LOL. Some new jewelry would be nice too :3 Now if only my hair would cooperate the day of.. we'll see. I just want to look perfect.
At least the least of my worries is makeup LOL
Speaking of this event planning stuff, found out that my courses don't actually end until March next year c: I'm so happy about it, especially because I've had NO time to look into it, especially with my job. I really need to plan out a schedule on completing all the assignments... Pastor Michael pushed that idea onto me, and I know I need to take it. I really don't wanna finish at the last minute, but at the same time I wanna take my time, be able to actually concentrate on the work and be fully active into it rather than exhausted. Within the next month or two I'll concentrate on the work with the networking-- going out and meeting people and businesses and getting references and whatnot~
A part of me really wants to personally contact Preston Bailey as well * w* I want to meet him so bad, I want him to teach me. (And what a dream it would be if I ended up apprenticing under him~ *sigh*)
But. Yeah. A lot of plans, little energy and limited time.
Let me not even get started on this cosplay.
Reflection Week~ Summer 2011
This past weekend for me was pretty negative in spirit. Anyone who knows the nature of my relationship with my father would know I was in a sour and resentful mood during Father's Day. To top it off, other 'events' happened which made me feel pretty nonchalant about everything.
So yesterday, I decided to go to my old elementary school and see my old teachers that were still there. I decided to dress cute, a nice airy look to go with the feeling of the day.
Eventually I switched the heels to flats because those.. were obv not practical lol.
It was just funny to me how many people were still there. The crossing guard who works at the school have always been there, since as far as I remember (I graduated from 5th grade 10 years ago). The woman I always regarded as "the lunch lady" was still there. It's ridiculous because these ladies weren't even like teacher staff but they knew who I was (I tend to see the crossing guard every so often, but anyone else I haven't really seen since I graduated). My 5th grade teacher Mr. Cooper was now the dean of the school, while my other teachers were still teaching the same grade. (aside from my 1st and 3rd grade-- I couldn't remember my third grade teacher, meanwhile apparently my 1st grade teacher Ms. Anzalone married, had a kid, and became some sort of specialist or something big at a school district in Long Island somewhere).
It's crazy, you'd think that after 10 years or so they wouldn't recognize me, having grown from a snot-nosed kid to the young adult I am. I didn't realize how much I still look the same... but all my teachers remembered! They might've not remembered my name exactly, but when they say my face they were in awe. They were so happy and grateful that I stopped by, "a blast from the past" as my 4th grade teacher Ms. Crockett called me. (though I think what's a bit crazier is that everyone looked exactly the same as I remembered them, after 10 years. Like you think working in an elementary school would sap people of their energy, but everyone looked like they were stuck in time.)
But out of all of them, the two that really made me feel old. Mr. Cooper it was like, lol. Because back when I had him in 5th grade he was one of those little crushes. I don't know-- his attitude, he always had this poise that always had attracted me and so I had a little puppy love crush for him. lol I remember having given him a flower from Omi's garden one time and gave it to him when I was about to leave for some special day trip, and then later on he gave me one back. Back then we had people assigned to take down the chairs in the classrooms (usually 2), but that day he only assigned me and so I went, to find this small flower on my desk. It was really innocent, and it made me feel so good, and honestly I think that was one of the experiences that helped mold what I look for in a man. (I'm pretty sure I still have that flower too, I had pressed and taped it to the cover of one of my old girly diaries)
And then, there was my favorite, my kindergarten teacher Ms. Faye.
She always had this sort of congested sound in her voice (but the cute kind, not the nasty sounding one), and she always had long, straight raven-black hair. I had a special thing for her, and her and Omi and Mom used to talk before I graduated and whatnot. That was pretty much one of Omi's only friends-- she used to walk over there and meet her in the cafeteria and just talk and whatnot, and then sometimes when Omi used to go outside, Ms Faye would come by the house and talk to her. That eventually stopped when Omi's legs and her arthritis got worse and she stopped going outside. When I talked to her I told her that she should come over to the house sometime, so I'm hoping she actually will one day. Omi would love the company.
Though I've only just finished my high school education a year ago (when I was supposed to be class of '08), and decided on doing this Event Planning & Design certification, opposed to getting an actual degree in hospitality or something, my teachers made me feel so good and helped me realized that I had accomplished something with myself. It makes me a bit emotional to think about it. All the self-deprecation I've done to myself over the years because my path so far was different than the average person, that I never look at things in a positive light until lately, makes me feel like I wasted so much of my time. Granted that I probably did, but at the same time I'm glad that I actually got myself together and am continuing on this long-term of breaking down and building myself up.
I am truly grateful for the people that God places in my life. And these feelings only came from elementary school-- I can't wait to visit my old middle school and my high school!
Today marks the first day of summer, and despite the things that happened over the weekend, I'm looking forward to it. My thoughts sort of shifted from that "finish certification first, work later" to a more multi-tasky sort of mindset. I want to be able to finish school, get money, while enjoying my summer and I don't want to end up hating it like I did last year. So I'm planning on starting to teach myself the Design course, while finishing my assignments for the Planning course (10 almost down, 14 more to go), and trying to find a part-time or maybe full-time job.
I've been talking to some friends around the way, and I hope I get what I want out of this summer. lol Not to make it the exact stereotype, but the summer theme is pretty much going to be a typical "GAL SUMMER". Not in me dressing up, or clubbing and whatnot (though I will be doing more of that), but generally keeping that carefree mood throughout the next 3 months and being able to put myself out there and release parts of myself that I''ve been keeping within.
I'll probably put my "Summer Must-Do" list up soon. Hopefully I'll be able to do most of it.
Looking forward to a exciting summer!
Pentecost + the past week
Did I ever mention how retarded Medicaid is? Always jacking up my flow.
Last week I got the notice that my insurance was back on. I went to GYN, everything went fine and dandy. Didn't go to my main physician yet to get my second Gardasil, but I was supposed to have an eye doctor appointment on Wednesday.
They call a day or two before to tell me that Medicaid told -them- they weren't going to pay for appointments until after August 29th.
Are you freaking kidding me? Like seriously? You hassle me for months about going to get my eyes and teeth checked but the moment I do, you're not gonna -pay- them till months later?
I really can't deal with them, like come the hell on. Sometimes I wish I had a full-time job and just paid for GOOD health insurance myself. Or just pay for the stupid appointments out of pocket because these fools can't get their stuff together.
I was going to call them but I'm not even gonna bother frustrating myself with them anymore. God forbid I go blind or something.
Also forgot about Pentecost in the midst of the baby shower and everything else, so my fasting was complete fail for most of the week. When I couldn't do my simple 1-meal-a-day fast for jack, I decided to go a little bit extreme in disciplining myself by going through a mostly liquids only fast for 3 days. It was harder than I thought! But I went through it.
After service I went to my pastor's house for some serious noms, and I made a very lemony lemon cake with raspberry filling. I ended up completely stuffing myself and had this huuuge stomachache and a 12-hour high. NEVER AGAIN LOL
Plans this week? Homework, homework, more homework. I'm cracking down on this Event Planning certification thing, I'm going to get this thing done and over with before the end of June. I did some homework last week that still needs typing, and I also finished reviewing all the chapters on the online curriculum and the end-of-chapter quizzes.
Now I'm just going to kill my social life to finish work, since H.W. was always an issue of mine since middle school and I know if I don't push myself, I'll never get it done. I'm not going outside unless someone's paying for me, or if I gotta leave for my fieldwork/networking homework!
Besides the homework being done, I also don't have money to spend anyways because LOL gotta pay my shopping services and whatnot.
/why I can't have nice things
Upside? Once I got my certification I'll be back in business, I'll be back on the prowl for work, internships, and then to work on the certification to my Event Design course. And yknow, summer fun and bikinis and beach and all that good shit.
After service I went to my pastor's house for some serious noms, and I made a very lemony lemon cake with raspberry filling. I ended up completely stuffing myself and had this huuuge stomachache and a 12-hour high. NEVER AGAIN LOL
Plans this week? Homework, homework, more homework. I'm cracking down on this Event Planning certification thing, I'm going to get this thing done and over with before the end of June. I did some homework last week that still needs typing, and I also finished reviewing all the chapters on the online curriculum and the end-of-chapter quizzes.
Now I'm just going to kill my social life to finish work, since H.W. was always an issue of mine since middle school and I know if I don't push myself, I'll never get it done. I'm not going outside unless someone's paying for me, or if I gotta leave for my fieldwork/networking homework!
Besides the homework being done, I also don't have money to spend anyways because LOL gotta pay my shopping services and whatnot.
/why I can't have nice things
Upside? Once I got my certification I'll be back in business, I'll be back on the prowl for work, internships, and then to work on the certification to my Event Design course. And yknow, summer fun and bikinis and beach and all that good shit.
Time to use my brain again.
So I'm officially back in school ♥
Not a degree course, just certificate courses for 1) Wedding and Event Planning and 2) Wedding and Event Design through Lovegevity's Wedding Planning Institute.
I've always been looking at this school, for at least two years now. When I was in my last school, the college adviser gave me a couple of suggestions on what to do as far as continuing education. At some point I decided I was just going to do a bunch of certification courses for the moment.
A couple of my friends used to go "why not just a degree course?" But really, there's no real degree course for Event Planning. The closest that I found was "Hospitality", and I just felt that if it's not on point to what I wanted to do, then I'm not going to bother with it. I don't like the idea of working around stuff that are *sort-of* connected to what I'm doing. Especially with the issues I did have going through high school, I feel that certification courses are easier for me to handle without emotional trauma, since I'm doing just what I want to do, rather than going through the college school system and taking Math and English and Language classes and etc. I feel I can't handle 2+ years of crap I don't want to do. Especially if it's gonna cost me 20+k dollars. No thanks.
So for now I'm doing these two courses. The Wedding and Event Planning course starts next Thursday, so I'll be going to it once a week at Brooklyn College from the 17th to sometime in May. As far as the Design course, Preston Bailey being the instructor, that's online so I've already started it. I'll probably make a review later on what I've seen so far and stuff, but at the moment I'm really enjoying it. The program is very interactive, but very much like a PowerPoint presentation when you go through all the sections.
My first impression was "It seems so brief :/" ... until I got to the part about Color Theory. Oh God, how I hated being introduced to Color Theory in my old classes, even though it was really for one day. I absolutely hated it and didn't understand half of it, but now I'm going to have to force myself and teach myself.
But really, I'm only near the end of the 1st part of like 7 parts. It seems short to me because I have trouble concentrating (especially when it's -on- the internet? lolo *has 5 different tabs open*), so mentally I practically skimmed it. I need to go back and read stuff again later on, so I can soak it in better, and then do extra research on my own, like again, Color Theory, and then more in-depth history on event planning, etc.
He of course has his own personal experiences all throughout, and he shared his concept drawings and before/after final products of weddings and stuff that he did.
They.
Were.
AMAZING.
In my future entry post I'll share. Because for me, it blew my mind.
The designs that were made were all fairy-tale like, and you'd think that you only see things like that in video game designs like from Final Fantasy and crap but, this guy seriously does it and brings it to real life. It's crazy. But I suppose the only downfall for it? Is that his clients have the expenses to make some ridiculous shit like that happen. I doubt I'll ever be able to have that happen soon ;____; /foreverpoor
In any case, once these are done, and if I don't have a job by then, I'll probably look into internships. Also thinking about doing Floral Design, as well as I think Image Consulting? and typical business courses. Just things that surrounds what I want to do.
Ending this before I start babbling on. blahh
